Ident crit 2 :

Today I received some valuable opinions on my finished idents , particularly from Matt the tutor. He complimented me on the quality of my finished idents and the style of it .However , he did point out some aspect which I can adjusted :

Ident1 : Adding more parallax effects in the scenes particularly scene 2 and 4.
Scene 3 : separating the birds and animate them at different speed to each other. less movement in the trees.
-Experiment with Duik to add weight to the climber's animation , or just take out the climber scene as a whole and create a more fluid transition between the scenes

Ident 2 and Ident 3  : Creating movement for each scene that happens even before the zoom, hence be viewable through the window.

For today , I got to work on adjust Ident 2 and 3 , with the result came out like this :

I really like these version , although the process of making it were a bit tricky. Basically I had  to extend the length of all the frames to make the animation last through out, as well as to play around with how to adjust the frame size problem of the last version as I had to get rid of the still frames that masked the negative space. However, it was less of labour than I imagine, albeit the files size right now is ridiculously huge !

Finalized Ident: Part II

Today I finally finished the final ident of my set . The process was in general went very smoothly, with the final product came out really great in my opinion , and certainly display more connection to the previous 2 idents. There were various obstacles in the way however, especially concerning the composition of the scenes in the final ident. After Effect apparently ran out of memory space for 3D layers and crashed , hence I had to discard the 1st scene and start the ident with the 2nd scene instead. Another tricky part was figuring how to place the scenes in the 3D place so that there won't be any gaps during the zoom, luckily , this was the exact problem with the 2nd ident , so I had a pretty clear idea of what to do. The last difficult bit was finding and syncing a soundtrack. I didn't want to use the same soundtrack as ident 2 so I search for another one in the same website I found the first. Luckily , there was one that perfectly fit what I looked for , as it has a very similar beginning to the previous one but differs when it got to the main part = > Another point of connection for my idents. With this I 've finished all the necessary tasks for this module, and I have to say , I'm very pleased with what I have right now.

Finalized idents

After finally done with all the layers for each scenes, I got around to creating my final pieces of animation, starting with adjusting and replacing the materials in the first 2 idents. In hindsight , even though it is called animatics, the 2 animations on hand are quite polished , especially with the zoom ident, therefore I only need to replace the elements that needed to be more detailed and adjusted. In this case, it was the enlarged scenes for the zoom ident so there won't be gaps anymore, as well as replacing and reanimating the final scene of the lantern and hand. Now that I had more focus of what the hand is doing for the scene, the movement of the hand really came out more natural, with a bonus of taking much less time to animate, thanks to all those time animating the first one. As for the 1st ident, it was quite a different story as I had to replace and reanimate everything apart from the wind turbine scene. Reason was all elements in the other scenes were sketchy and needed to be re-done. However, the animatic still helps alot in the layout, as well as the final composition , as the after effects file still stored my first composition hence It automatically updated the scenes when I changed them. In general , the final products came out awesome and fits my vision perfectly and in my mind are ready for submission, of course, there is still the crit to come to see what everyone else think. After this , I'm starting on the final animation , which is the animal zoom ident, but that should be easy as it is very similar to the 2nd ident

Idents : Storyboards

Here's all my finished scenes for all 3 of my idents. Have to say I'm really happy with my idents . The styles of each one are all similar which make the connection more apparent than the original idea. Each of the scenes also had some tweaks , particularly, I put more refinement and details in each of the characters that will be animated in each scene, as well as changing the character completely ( ident1-scene 5). A bit of time also went into scaling the scenes up ( ident-2 scene 3) so that when the zooms happens, there wont be black gaps like there was in the first draft of the animation. Another part was to separate and export each character in each scenes into multiples files ready for import on After Effects. This created LOTS OF files but I managed to organised the all into nice and neat folders. Now the only thing left is to complete the animation by replacing the old scenes with the new one, since the animation in the first drafts of the idents are something that I'm already pretty happy with.

OUAN406 : New Ident : more scenes !

Continuing my development on new scenes for the ident , I've managed to come up with the final scenes that will be a part of my new ident idea:

This would make the total amount of scenes equal to that of the zoom ident, hence creating a uniformed motive. The shot of the eye will be the longest ( around 5 seconds) with the logo appearing in front of it as it moves along. There was a debate between actually animating the eye slowing opening with traditional methods and using after effects, but at the end of it , I feel that using After effects makes the scenes connects better to the previous scenes, as well as appearing way smoother while being less labour-demanding. With that said , I really like the slides I've created for this , even more so than the slides in the original zoom idents. This one just has a bit more character to it, and the nice contrast between flat images and hand-drawn is really cool to look at. Also , taking notes from the previous idents, all these slides are now done in 3000x2000 pixels , so when it is pushed back, there won't be gaps between the zooms like the last one.
